- How much food and water should I pack?
- Aim for a floor of about seven days per pet — the ASPCA advises 7–10 days of food, at least a week of water, and a two-week medication supply, since you may not be allowed home for a while. Store it airtight and waterproof, and rotate it so it stays fresh.
- Can I take this bag to a hurricane shelter?
- Have it ready, but confirm the shelter first — standard emergency shelters generally take only service animals, and pet-friendly evacuation centers vary by county (some require pre-registration, some don’t). Check your county’s official emergency page, and line up a pet-friendly hotel or a friend outside your zone as a backup.
