- How long does owner-training take?
- Usually months, not weeks — commonly cited as 18–24 months for a fully working team, though the ADA sets no required time at all. Rushing a young or under-prepared dog into public access tends to backfire, so the tracker is built around solid phases, not a calendar.
- What if my dog doesn’t make it?
- Retiring — “washing” — a dog that isn’t suited is a normal, responsible outcome, not a failure; even professional programs wash many candidates. A washed dog is still a wonderful pet. Building an honest exit point in protects the dog’s welfare and your own investment.
